Miss Carey

Aloha Students and Parents/ Guardians!
~Background~ I am Miss Carey and I am incredibly excited to be working with you this year! I grew up in Connecticut and most of my family still lives there. I have 3 sisters, 2 step-sisters and a step-brother! I also have a nephew who is 7! It had been my dream to move to Hawaii to teach since 2013 when I took an educational trip to Oahu and the Big Island. I visited elementary schools on both islands and learned about Hawaiian culture. I fell in love with all of it! I was finally able to move here in July of 2016 after completing my Master's program, and my time here on the island has been absolutely incredible! This will be my fourth year at Ho'okele, and I am eager to see what it has in store! ~Education/ Certification~ I received my Bachelor's Degree in psychology and elementary general education/ special education for grades 1-6 from Marist College in New York, which allowed me to become dually certified. I furthered my education at Marist and received my Master's Degree in educational psychology. I hold teaching certificates in both New York State and Hawaii. I am an avid believer in being a lifelong learner, so later on down the road I hope to go back to school and get my PhD and potentially become a professor in a teaching program at a college or university! ~Interests~ I enjoy hiking, snorkeling, and spending time at the beach! My favorite subject is science, and I enjoy reading in my spare time. I love eating sweets, like chocolate and ice cream. My favorite type of cuisine is Mexican food (such as tacos, burritos, and nachos), so my students always remind me when it's nacho day in the cafeteria! :) ~Communication with Families~ I want to ensure that there is strong communication between myself and all parents/ guardians throughout the school year. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns via phone, email, Class Dojo, or a note! I am looking forward to a fantastic school year! |
