Aloha Students and Parents/ Guardians!
I am Miss Carey and I am incredibly excited to be working with you this year! I grew up in Connecticut and most of my family still lives there. It has been my dream to move to Hawaii to teach since 2013 when I took an educational trip to Oahu and the Big Island. I visited elementary schools on both islands and learned about Hawaiian culture, and I fell in love with all of it. I was finally able to move here last July after completing my Masters program, and this past year was wonderful! This will be my second year at Ho'okele and I am eager to see what it has in store!
I received my Bachelor's Degree in psychology and elementary general education/ special education for grades 1-6 from Marist College in New York, which allowed me to become dually certified. I furthered my education at Marist and received my Master's Degree in educational psychology.
I have worked with students ranging from age 3 to age 14. I have worked in both general education classrooms as well as inclusion and fully special education classrooms. My experiences working with children with special needs range from students with mild learning disabilities all the way to students with severe cognitive deficits who are completely non-verbal and live in a residential program on their school's campus. Working with the general education as well as the special education populations is a passion of mine that I found pretty early in my life. I am overjoyed to be teaching the fourth grade inclusion classroom for a second year!
I want to ensure that there is strong communication between myself and all parents/ guardians throughout the school year. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns via phone, email, Remind App, or a note!
I am looking forward to a fantastic school year!
